But you get it. Do what you want. If I stumbled into a position like this,...
– An email from Monica earlier that made me laugh out loud while I was in line at the in the Jewel.
I meant to talk about emails to/from Monica in relation to blogging yesterday after she posted this snippet of an email she sent me, because as I read it I thought about it being a thing you can tell...

sunday morning
Everyone who is out in Logan Square right now is either at church or coming home from last night. It is snowing lightly and very gray outside. The ground is wet.
The men who stand outside the grocery store for sport were talking about me. Bicicleta amarillo. I was also the only person around. When I turned around my bike started to fall over, and they made “oh oh oh oh” noises. I...

friday afternoon
It is report card pick up day and we are sitting in a row, laptops open, waiting for parents. We’ve been told twice we look like a panel. Our feet are tangled with our coats and bags and power cords. I am wearing heels.
The school feels smaller today, of course, because the students are filtering in and out. I don’t recognize some of them in their not-uniforms. They do more with their...

some things
My sleep schedule has been off for the past week or so due to a combination of shorter work days, willingness to drive sick friends to to emergency room at four in the morning, hibernation, and the caffeine that lives inside of chocolate.
Last night I drank a bunch of wine with Zoe and her landlord. It was a really good time, and plus he told me where I can find a Mennonite who fixes Hyuandis.

I almost barfed, and I really dislike barfing.
I am a negative person. I say this like it’s a...

monday
I had a fantastic weekend. I am having a bad day. I need to be someplace in exactly thirty minutes. I am not wearing pants.

fascinating things
Or, my weekend to-do list:
Remove the chipped fluorescent red crayon color polish from my fingernails
Fill out job application, even though it means writing essays
Make jicama salad
Purchase groceries; do not buy too much cheese
Turn mountain of laundry into small hill of laundry

the train
I never ride the train anymore. Two wheels, four wheels, rarely this many.
A man asked a girl if she wanted some sugar. Her face remained blank. He took out a packet of sugar and shook it at her. He did a little dance.
It smells like the old people home in here.

let's talk about soup
Tonight Mattie made some corn chowder. It was very good, but I can’t give you the recipe because it came out of a book. I dumped a bunch of shredded cheese in it, because that is pretty much how I operate. Tomorrow I will probably make this coconut chicken soup, but without mushrooms and fish sauce and maybe with some extra vegetables. I have not been eating very many vegetables lately. No...
