monday morning
The best things about vintage coats is that they are cool looking.
The worst thing about vintage coats is that sometimes when you get to work instead of finding your telephone in your pocket there is just a rip in the fabric, and then you don’t have a telephone anymore!

thursday afternoon
From my basement office the snowplows sound thunderous. I am excited about the snow but hope it doesn’t prevent tomorrow’s planned suburban adventure. For future reference, just say the word Ikea to me and I’ll probably offer to take you.
monday morning
My bike finally has wheels again but I need to put a rack on the back pronto so that I can bike to work instead of getting on the blue line and fuming about every asshole who just got off an airplane and thinks having an extra seat for their luggage is a right rather than a total dick move.

The cat sneezed four times yesterday is and mewing forty percent more and seventy percent more pitifully than usual. There is WebMD for pets, and it is possible that it is even more dangerous than WebMD for humans.
I think Hilda has herpes, I emailed Sparks earlier. Jokes about the historical accuracy of chastity belts sold at the American Girl store ensued. But the herpes would explain her wonky...

notes from connecticut
This morning a woman from the Register took my picture standing next to a sale sign in downtown New Haven. She was excited that I was from Chicago and more excited my family was from Durham. I looked terrible - I have a cold and I hadn’t bothered to dress nicely and was probably slouching, per usual. We made the joke once each about not being able to stay out of the papers (my mother on the...

From the trunk of an old friend’s car, a brown sweater I hadn’t seen in three and a half years but had just thought of the day before
From the best bagel shop I know of in New York, a half dozen, all gone.
From Santa, a new bicycle helmet and boots I couldn’t afford myself
From Daniel, on Christmas eve, one bag of iceberg lettuce

friday morning
Instead of taking a picture like a creeper, I’ll describe the scene in front of me on the blue line: there’s a white man, late 30’s, with two small children. The girl child is wearing silver Mary Janes and the baby has on tiny chucks. The man, who is pushing a stroller that cost approximately half of my month’s income- yes, I googled it. On his coat is a large orange button...

thursday afternoon
After telling myself for the last hour that I would not forget my sandwich, I am standing on the red line platform and my sandwich is up one escalator and down another, inside a brown cube fridge, in the back “intern office” where I sit even though I’m not an intern. The interns rotate in and out. I like them. Today, down the hall, Ian yelled “what the fuck!”at the...

Made a card out of markers and rubber stamps
Put a dress, cardigan, necklace, hair straightener, and bathing suit (hotel pool!) into my messenger bag
Drank hot toddies and ate nachos at the kitchen table with Sparks and Monica for two hours
Painted my fingernails purple

oh, hey
Both the best and worst part of my day so far has been the bag of chocolate covered potato chips that I bought at Trader Joe’s.
I turn twenty-six on Friday.
If you are in Logan Square and not doing anything tonight you should probably come to the Whirlaway for trivia at eight.
